Michael Sanderson, Chief Executive, EMTA

 

Michael Sanderson obtained a PhD in the Metallurgy Department of Leeds University before joining the Research Division of Wilkinson Sword, where he pioneered and patented a reactive sputtering process for coating the tips of razor blades which is still in use today.  He became Technical Director of Wilkinson Sword at the age of 30 and held that post for 7 years, then becoming International Marketing Director.

 

Later in his career he was Engineering Director at AMF Legg, Export Director and Joint Managing Director at Lansing Bagnall (now Lansing Linde) and Managing Director of AWD Bedford, the road truck manufacturer.  From 1991 to 1993 he was Chief Executive of the British Standards Institution.  He is presently Chief Executive of the Engineering and Marine Training Authority.

 

Dr Sanderson is a past-President of the Institute of Supervision and Management, a member of the Council of the Institute of Quality Assurance, the Court of Cranfield University and the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers. He is also a trustee of the Foundation for Science and Technology, Business Dynamics, the Edexcel Trust and a Founder Director of the Engineering and Technology Board.
